UNIQUE TIPS FOR GOOD HEALTH

Everybody is aware of exercise and a healthy lifestyle are the key to having good health. While this is undeniably true, there are a number of minor steps one can take to promote robust well-being, which does not consume much effort or time.

These unique engagements, if consciously practiced, hold the potential to keep the doctor away, as your health remains in your control. One can lead not just an uninterrupted healthy life but also significantly reduce clinical intervention, medical examinations and medicines. In this state, the inner-self evokes an all-powerful feeling – I am eternally healthy.

Let us discuss these simple approaches -

SITTING POSTURES

Most of us are used to sitting on chairs where the entire weight of the body is taken by the furniture. But we suggest using two other postures multiple times that would greatly improve the flexibility of knee, hip joints and ankles as also strengthen the feet. For those time-starved to do any exercise, these postures can do the default workout for you, which not just keep you agile and energetic but also prevent joint pain as you age.

We should sit in cross legged position, in which the knees are on the sitting or ground level several times in our day-to-day activities like while having food, reading a book or even watching TV etc. One can distinctly feel the warmth of flexibility in the joints, while it arouses a sensation of fitness from inside.

This position, called ‘sukhasana’ in yoga, is the usual posture for meditation. Padmasana, the more difficult pose in this genre can also be practiced, which is even more effective.

Our other sitting suggestion is the Indian toilet style, where one has to sit with full weight on their legs, which is also a very good exercise for all joints in the lower part of the body. Getting into this posture several times in a day while one is doing some routine work can really work wonders.

SUN BATH

Sun, the source of all light and energy on earth is worshipped in India since ancient times for its highly beneficial powers. And taking sun bath daily for at least 10-20 minutes can add not just great spiritual strength but also physical and emotional wellness.

Sun rays are the original source of Vitamin D, and this element is the determinant of strong bones and good health according to medical science. Moreover, invoking its energies reduces blood sugar, enhance one’s mood and ensure overall well-being of the body.

YOGA OR EXERCISE

One should do one hour of regular yoga or exercise in the morning on empty stomach, which is essential for the body to stay fit. However, if you happen to fall in the category of remaining utterly busy then practice just the most fundamental yoga exercise of Anulom Vilom. This 15-minute practice gives about 60% results of a full set of yoga exercises.

MEDITATIVE EFFECT

Meditation is considered to be a powerful tool for acquiring immunity against many feared diseases and thus is the medicine of good health. However, there are several ways one can reach a meditative state of mind without sitting for no-thought or stillness of the thoughts.

Prayers in deep devotion at different times of the day gives a meditative effect of calm composure and concentration. This peaceful state of mind contributes to a balanced body.

Learning and practicing of new skills from music to cooking to painting to gardening – or for that matter anything that you pursue passionately takes one to a state of deep immersion, which is equivalent to meditation without formally practicing the same.

Applying innovation to whatever you do in your day-to-day life, and thereafter counting the improved productivity as a result of your creative application of ideas, makes you an eternally optimistic individual with a distraction-free unwavering mind, which is tranquil meditative consciousness.

RESTRAINT BY FASTING

Restraint is the key to achieving good health and fasting enables self-control in oneself. That apart, abstinence gives a meditative impact of an inner energy, feel good and confidence to overcome hurdles. Ideally, one should fast 2-4 times a month.

Quite naturally, fasting is a practice prescribed in every religion. This restraint gives rest to your stomach to get it out of fatigue just as we give a breather to our body through sleeping. Abstention from food induces autophagy by sending our cells in survival mode, which then consume the fat in our body, leading to lowering of cholesterol, a drop in blood sugar and pressure levels. Most importantly, it is a huge immunity booster.

That apart, one has to impose curbs on smoking, drinking, fast food and overindulgence of food. Largely, a disciplined and healthy diet should be maintained by all.

LIGHTING CAMPHOR

Lighting camphor or Kapor twice a day, in the morning and evening, not only soothes the mind but also creates a harmonious atmosphere at home. This crystal-like white compound is a great anti-depressant, with strong calming down effect of the nerves. Those suffering from insomnia and high blood pressure benefit a lot, as you get better sleep and lower blood pressure without any medicines. The secret to good health is a balanced mind and tension-free life, and camphor does that by cooling down our thoughts.

In addition, the aroma of burning camphor helps remove distractions, brings stillness to the mind and helps one with deeper concentration.

OIL IN NAVEL

Put a few drops of mustard or castor oil in the navel daily and massage the area well. According to Ayurveda, navel is the centre of the body, the linking chamber of various veins, and the source of all energy and vitality. Thus, kneading the belly button enhances overall immunity, helps in digestion, prevents menstrual cramps as also improves sleep and skin. While it works against cracking of lips in winter, one research says, this step keeps our joints lubricated, thereby preventing joint pains in old age.

MINIMIZE MEDICINES

In today’s busy, stressed life, most of us take the easy route of visiting a doctor and taking some medicines even for minor ailments to get instant cure. But we hardly think of applying natural therapies or have the patience to wait for our body’s inbuilt defence mechanism to heal itself.

Rather one should minimize visiting clinics unless absolutely necessary, and avoid those pills, since most medications have some side-effects or even their overuse can lead to drug resistance.

NO TO ADDICTION

Addictions kill you, and are worse than cancer, making you and your family suffer immensely when one gets hooked to such obsessive compulsions. The addict reaches a state where he loses control of himself, as also fails to realize the mistakes he is committing.

Thus, one should strictly say ‘no to addiction’. Once you are out of this self-hypnotized zone, you save yourself from losses and conserve vital energy that is essential for self-progress.

Apart from alcohol and drugs, which are the most common addictions, other condemned habits include gambling, illicit sex and masturbation.

While all of these behaviours origin in the mind and are also for fulfilling the mental horizon, such engagements invariably break you down physically, leading to vital loss of energy and poor health.

AVOID ARGUMENTS

Mind influences the body much more than the body controls the mind. Getting into unnecessary arguments often leads to a disturbed mind, and that effects the body too. Hence, avoid verbal confrontations as much as possible.
