Science museums hold the key to popularizing science in society, and thus establishing science museums should be the topmost priority of any government that wants to promote innovation and achieve greater scientific progress of the nation.

Encouraging a nation’s population to visit these centres with their children to impart them greater knowledge and wisdom helps in creating a passion, especially among students, to pursue science education and to explore out of the box ideas for innovation and value creation.

NATIONAL COUNCIL OF SCIENCE MUSEUMS

National Council of Science Museums, an autonomous body under Ministry of Culture, Government of India administers 26 science museums and 7 national level science centres across India with the objective of popularizing science education among students and fostering innovation. That apart, NSCM develops science museums on behalf of different organizations in India and abroad.

Many of these museums have innovation hubs that comprises innovation resource centers, idea lab and design studio, where students can explore new possibilities.

The national science centres include – Science City, Kolkata, Birla Industrial & Technological Museum, Kolkata, Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai, Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum, Bangalore. National Science Centre, New Delhi, National Science Centre, Guwahati, Central Research & Training Laboratory, Kolkata.
